About LUYUAN
Founded in 1997, LUYUAN is a long-established electric two-wheeler manufacturer. With decades of experience in green mobility, the company focuses on lightweight smart mobility products, intelligent manufacturing, and global market development.
LUYUAN has built a strong in-house R&D capability with more than 1,100 granted patents. The company also participates in the development of industry standards.
The Background: When Connected Vehicles Outgrow the Legacy Platform
The electric two-wheeler industry is evolving from traditional transportation toward connected and intelligent mobility. Features such as real-time positioning, remote vehicle control, anti-theft capabilities, and over-the-air (OTA) updates are becoming increasingly important to the rider experience.
For LUYUAN, intelligence is a key part of its product strategy. However, its legacy in-house IoT platform was approaching its capacity limits. As the number of connected devices increased, scaling the platform required growing development and operational effort. Limitations in protocol compatibility, message throughput, and data processing were also becoming increasingly difficult to overcome.
LUYUAN therefore set out to build a new IoT platform that could provide a more reliable and scalable foundation for connected vehicles, support the continued evolution of its smart mobility applications, and accommodate future business growth.
What the Next Generation Platform Needed to Deliver
As LUYUAN evaluated solutions for its next-generation electric two-wheeler IoT platform, four capabilities stood out:
Scale with Device Growth
The platform needed to remain stable as connected device volumes increased, with predictable performance at each stage of expansion.
Handle High Message Volumes
The platform had to sustain high-concurrency messaging as more vehicles came online, without message backlogs or performance degradation.
Support Proprietary Protocols
LUYUAN needed the flexibility to integrate and process its proprietary protocols, including message parsing, transformation, and routing.
Fit the Existing Architecture
The new platform needed to integrate with LUYUAN’s existing technology stack while providing reliable technical support throughout implementation and operations.
Why LUYUAN Chose EMQX
EMQX had demonstrated its ability to handle large-scale device connectivity and high-volume message throughput. EMQ’s experience with major automotive and mobility customers also gave LUYUAN relevant architectural references for its own electric two-wheeler IoT platform.
Just as importantly, EMQ took LUYUAN’s specific business and technical requirements into account during the early solution discussions, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all architecture.
“For us, the most important thing was whether the platform could remain stable as both connected devices and message volumes continued to grow. EMQX gave us confidence in those areas and helped us avoid many of the technical detours that come with building and scaling the core IoT infrastructure ourselves.”
The Solution: A Scalable Foundation for Connected Mobility
The new platform adopts a cloud-based architecture centered on EMQX Cloud. EMQX provides the core infrastructure for connecting electric two-wheelers, handling MQTT messaging, routing device data, and supporting downstream business systems.
EMQX Cloud for Elastic Scalability
The EMQX Cloud fully managed MQTT platform provides the capacity to support tens of thousands of concurrent connections per node and scale horizontally through clustering.
Distributed session sharing helps maintain connectivity when devices switch between nodes, minimizing the impact on connected applications and user experiences. EMQX Cloud also supports on-demand scaling, allowing the platform to move to larger resource configurations as business requirements increase without requiring the team to manage underlying server capacity.
Flexible Processing for Proprietary Protocols
To support LUYUAN’s proprietary device protocols, EMQX Rule Engine provides SQL-based message filtering and routing. Device data can be selectively processed and forwarded to Kafka, where application services handle protocol-specific parsing, field extraction, and format transformation.
This approach reduces the amount of custom development required for message routing and provides a more flexible path from device connectivity to application-level data processing.
One MQTT Backbone for Multiple Business Systems
EMQX provides a unified MQTT messaging layer across the platform, reducing fragmentation between previously separate data paths.
Data from different device protocols used across LUYUAN’s electric two-wheeler ecosystem can be normalized through the rule engine. It’s then delivered through a common messaging backbone before being routed to downstream systems based on business requirements.
This architecture simplifies the integration of new services while making it easier to connect and analyze data across different business systems.
Built-In Security and Operational Visibility
The platform uses TLS-encrypted communication together with authentication and authorization mechanisms to protect device access and data transmission.
EMQX also provides operational visibility into key platform metrics, including cluster status, connection counts, and message throughput. This enables the operations team to monitor the platform as device volumes grow and identify potential issues more quickly.
The Results: Turning Scale into Business Agility
The new IoT platform has delivered measurable improvements in development efficiency and business agility:
30% More Efficient R&D Delivery
By using EMQX Rule Engine for protocol processing and message routing, LUYUAN reduced the amount of custom development required for protocol integration, platform expansion, and related repetitive engineering work.
Three Months Faster to Launch New Business
The unified messaging architecture allows new services to reuse existing connectivity and data paths instead of building them from scratch. This significantly reduces the development effort, shortening the time needed to bring new capabilities to market.
A Foundation for the Next Stage of Smart Mobility
The new platform built on EMQX provides the foundation that supports the continued evolution of LUYUAN’s smart mobility applications and connected vehicle products.

The Road Ahead
With its new IoT foundation in place, LUYUAN will continue working with EMQ to explore cloud-edge optimization, AI-assisted operations, and multi-region deployment, supporting the next stage of its smart mobility journey.
