Overview

A well-known oil field informatization technology company in China has been committed to the informatization construction of the oil industry for many years. The company owns more than 500 employees, while 30% of whom have more than 10 years industry experience.

At present, their customers are all over the major oilfields and oil companies under Sinopec, PetroChina and CNOOC(China Offshore Oil Corporation). The business has been extended to other fields such as the construction of smart cities and e-government. In addition, the company successfully occupied a certain share in the overseas market.

In order to meet the development of the informatization construction of oil industry, and the business needs for cost reduction and efficiency improvement, the company hopes to provide innovative solutions for data collection in traditional petroleum and petrochemical industry by relying on IOT technology.

Challenges

High Cost of Acquisition Equipment and System Maintenance

A large number of local data collection and data storage systems are deployed in oil and gas field production plants and acquisition plants. As the equipment of the edge collection and storage system ages and the software cannot be updated, leading to the continual increase of system operation and maintenance costs.

Increased Demand for High-Frequency Real-Time Data Collection

With the increasing utilization of real-time data by enterprises, the frequency of use of data collection systems has gradually increased. The demand for real-time data collection of new-generation business applications shows a trend of high frequency and large volume. Unfortunately, the deployed data collection systems failed to meet current business needs.

Multi-Level Real-Time Data Interaction

With the development of oilfield network construction, the first-level network from the operation area to the plant area and the bureau has been opened up. However, there is no unified platform for monitoring and management at the bureau level, so it is impossible to achieve unified IOT operation status control at the oilfield level. There is no centralized storage of data, and unable to provide industrial data to the outside uniformly.

Solution

EMQ provides a cloud-side collaborative industrial data collection solution to help the petroleum and petrochemical industry build an innovative IoT platform.

Multi-Level Real-Time Data Unified Collection

EMQ's cloud-side integrated high concurrency real-time data collection capability, which can be adapted to various RTUs, PLCs and industrial bus equipment, and quickly report real-time data to the plant and bureau-level platforms through wired or wireless networks to achieve unified access to edge data and centralized storage at the platform.

Cloud Access and Storage of Massive Field Data

The cloud data access message middleware provided by EMQ provides real-time data storage for massive terminal equipment data by realizing high-throughput data bridging through the rule engine, database and message queue.

Remote Equipment Operation and Maintenance Management Channel

EMQ provides cloud-side collaboration functions to remotely configure and issue commands to edge access gateways of on-site equipment in oil and gas fields on the plant data center platform, which provides a management channel for remote equipment operation, maintenance, and management.

Results

The customer built a new IoT data collection and management platform solution through EMQ's real-time data collection and management system with cloud edge collaboration functions. It helps petroleum and petrochemical enterprises established a unified platform frame with light front-end and heavy back-end, simplified on-site date collection and storage, as well as reduced operation and maintenance costs.

The unified data access platform provides a flexible data interface for back-end configuration software development, which can help customers to accelerate the innovative business applications development process. The data provided by the unified data platform simplified system integration, reduced R&D costs, and improved development efficiency significantly.

By now, the EMQ solution has been implemented in many data collection projects in China Crude Oil Field and CNOOC, helping the company become more and more competitive in market expansion.
